First Days in France!

I've arrived!! The trip was more than a little tedious.  I flew out of Boston to Dublin, Ireland, and then flew to Paris, France where we took the TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse or High Speed Train in English) down to Lyon.  It was a very long flight (we left at 6:30 pm American time on Monday and arrived in Lyon at 4:00 pm on Tuesday) in which we got zero sleep!  Everyone is feeling a little jet lagged now and I keep waking up at 2:00 am for some reason, unable to fall back asleep.

On Wednesday (my first full day in Lyon) we went out to purchase phones and metro cards.  After that, we went on a scavenger hunt to learn about the places in Lyon and see some of the city!
Ruins of a theatre, department of Rhône

Theater ruins with a view of the whole city of Lyon

Le Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière

Le Hôtel de Ville de Lyon (Lyon's city hall)

This morning I had orientation at my college.  It was raining really hard, so on the way back to my apartment I made one of my first purchase- a parapluie (an umbrella)!  Tonight, I have a fancy dinner to attend to meet some of my professors.

I have decided that one of my favorite parts about being in France is that orangina is available everywhere.  For anyone who doesn't know, orangina is a soda, and the only way to describe is that it is like carbonated orange juice (it actually has pulp!).  The food here is also really good.

Hopefully my next post will be a little more interesting.  Until then,
Beverly

Welcome to my blog!  During my studies in Lyon, France I'm hoping to keep you updated with all that I am doing and everything that I am learning.  I hope this experience will be both fun and educational, and I can't wait to fly out tomorrow afternoon!
